Dr. Rearick and Stephen Cherniak Featured speakers at the 29th Annual Wellness in the Workplace Conference

February 3, 2010 11:16 AM  Executives in most companies continue to believe in the value of health promotion and behavior change programs.  However for some of these executives the strength of that belief is beginning to diminish due to many of the undelivered promises of these programs.  The HMRC has called for a Transformational Approach from a health promotion and disease prevention strategy to a core business strategy with the objective of creating a Healthy and High Performing Workplace and Workforce.

Our 2009 book, Zero Trends: Health as a Serious Economic Strategy introduced this transformation approach.  Our 29th Annual Conference is structured to continue our effort to bring about transformational change to this field. Day 1 (March 10) of the conference features speakers who have been leading proponents of the "core business" approach and the five pillar strategy from Zero Trends.

1.     Mike Critelli, Executive Chairman (Retired) Pitney Bowes.  Mike was the driving force behind the growth of Pitney Bowes as a major company and drove a transformational approach to developing a healthy and high performing workplace and workforce.

2.     Andy Scibelli, Manager of Employee Health & Well-Being FPL Group. For 15 years Andy has led and continues to lead the Florida Power and Light effort in creating an award winning healthy and high performing workforce.

3.    Dave Rearick, Vice-President of Medical Management Strategic Benefit Solutions.  Dave created the SBS wellness solution for small and medium size companies and continues to add to the effectiveness of the program.

4.    Steve Cherniak, Wellness Director Strategic Benefit Solutions. Steve, working with Dave, is the creative implementer of the SBS wellness solution and previously developed and ran a long-term program at Ford Motor Company.

5.     Tonya Vyhlidal, Wellness Safety and Life Enhancement Director Lincoln Industries. Tonya has led the award winning Lincoln Industries program for several years and continues to create innovative approaches to employee engagement and outcome measures.

6.     Cindy Bjorkquist, Director of Wellness and Care Management Blue Cross Blue Shield Michigan.  Cindy created and leads the worksite application of the BCBSM solution to healthy and high performing workplaces and workforces.

The post conference workshop (March 11), CREATING ZERO TRENDS CHAMPION COMPANIES, will focus on practical methods for implementing the Zero Trends pillars to create a culture and environment of health as a core business strategy in your company by:

1.    Accurately assessing your company's engagement level

2.    Engaging Senior Leadership in creating the vision

3.    Engaging Operations Leadership to align policies with vision

4.    Building self-leaders and rewarding positive actions

5.    Using a quality-assurance evaluation framework to show progress in the five pillars and support Population Health Management as a core business strategy.

Health Transformation Group LLC, in collaboration with other leading consultants, has been engaged to develop and co-lead this workshop with Dr. Dee Edington.  The consulting collaboration is focusing on the development and validation of the methods and tools necessary to improve the health and vitality of individuals by reframing and transforming the context, culture, ecology and economy of health in organizations and communities.

The first day is designed to give experienced and interested professionals an introduction to the pillars and implementation of Zero Trends strategies.  Each of the speakers is experienced in one or more of the strategies and is nationally known and experienced presenters.  The second day is designed to give the experienced Company Executive or Health Management professional an in-depth view of the strategies and practical tactics for implementation of the Zero Trends Transformational approach as a serious business strategy.
