BOOT CAMP EVENT SUMMARY
Executives concerned about the implications of healthcare reform gathered this summer to learn from legal and industry experts. About 100 participants representing 73 companies were treated to an informative presentation and interactive panel discussion with:
- Peter J. Marathas, Proskauer, Boston, MA
- Rick Elliott, President & CEO, United Healthcare of Georgia
- Rich Novak, President, CIGNA Healthcare of Georgia
- John Price, President, Georgia Market, Aetna
- Daniel P. Santmyer, FSA, MAAA, Actuary, Milliman
Marathas spoke from his experience advising clients in Massachusetts in the wake of their state-wide healthcare reform act, upon which much of the current legislation is based. Employers were especially interested in hearing his take on grandfathered plans and how changes in dependent children requirements will impact their plans. Marathas, a partner with Proskauer, Boston, MA, is a recognized ERISA expert and has been named one of the "Best Lawyers in America" in employee benefits and compensation law.
His informative presentation was followed by a panel discussion where United Healthcare’s, CIGNA’s and Aetna’s Presidents for the Georgia market were joined by Dan Santmyer, Actuary with Milliman, and Marathas to answer questions from the audience. Topics covered included the expected impact of certain provisions of the legislation on insurance rates, and trends expected to result from the act.
Unique technology was used to conduct real time polls of the audience which represented 73 unique employer groups covering 37,000 employees and 72,000 members. Their conclusion from the discussion was that the new law is likely to increase their cost. A full view of their opinions is shown on the presentation page.
